Bowing to Boston
Lakers, Pistons, Cavaliers, Indiana, Bulls

The Celtics went out of their way, in the postseason at least, to eliminate any memory of their choking past. A rebound in the face of such reification is remarkable, Boston made fuel out of the intangible, the Celtics’ entire season was typified by the Slam Dunk Contest, the look-at-me glove on Jaylen Brown’s hand.
Squirm if it suits the seat you’re in, but only after looking at what it won them. Jayson Tatum’s screeching attempts at a KG’isms after the Game 5 victory were proof, these guys fed off those posts.
We’ll get used to that, victors in previous decades compared their own championship movements to celluloid heroes, sport legends in spaces before this had print, periodicals, comic books and cheap novels to creep alongside. Pro sports reflects its culture’s consumption habits, rates. And do toss in the forever-influence of pro wrestling, each Celtic hatter re-introducing his character to ABC, TNT and ESPN in every scheduled appearance.
We like those characters, even if they are easier to anticipate in the wake of Marcus Smart’s absence. It is as if I can’t create a single Celtic sentence which doesn’t end in a snort of some sort.
