Daryl Morey didn't see this heat coming?

Once James Harden said he’d never work for an organization that Daryl Morey is “a part of,” the NBA was free to levy six figures.
That’s a trade demand, pal. You can call Daryl Morey an “idiot” until there are no more shoes to sell or wine to bottle, it doesn’t matter, but promise not to show up to work? That’s a trade demand, that’s a fine. The NBAPA filed a grievance, “respectfully” disagreeing with the action because who wouldn’t respect taking $100k out of James Harden’s pocket? That stuff goes to charity anyway.
What destroys me is how discernable this is, all sides living out something we clearly visualized from the outset of James’ rumored reunion with Morey. Even if Harden pulled off a championship with Joel Embiid’s Sixers, he was still gonna turn 34, he was still going to outlive his basketball return on a maximum rate. Daryl Morey saw this coming, as we all did, and this is his response?
