Happy Leap Year, winter is over

In some cultures, the onset of the Leap Year Day indicates the closing of climate’s coldest season. Feb. 29 is nearly the perfect day to confirm an equinoctial modulation, agreed, but I’ve a better approach.

The Cleveland Cavaliers lost on Feb. 28, earning at worst a Play-In spot for the East’s top-seeded Boston Celtics. An NBA team clinched a playoff berth. This is the beginning of spring. Or at least the end of winter.

The rest of the globe will take a little longer to thaw, teams out of Brooklyn (four games out of the postseason bracket) and Toronto (4.5 out) hope it takes seven weeks.

But Boston is in, birds are screaming at other birds, spring is here. I’m no Celtic-backer, but this is as good as any tulip popping through turf:

It stands for “professedly spring.”
